The 10 Highest Mountains

A mountain is a geographical land form that results from thousands of year of tectonic plates colliding. Thousands of mountains have been created in earth's history and grow millimeters every year. Interestingly enough, central and southern Asia have produced all of the highest mountain peaks in the world. The heights of mountains are measured as height above sea level and their peaks can only be considered, if they are objectively considered to be individual mountains. Mountains found in central and southern Asian can easily dwarf and manmade formation, reaching heights that are nearly as high as the average commercial airplane's cruising altitude. They are the title of world's highest mountains.

1. Mount Everest - Found in the Sagarmatha Zone of Nepal, Mount Everest is possibly one of the most famous mountains. It is the world's tallest mountain reaching a height of 29,029 feet. The mountain is so large that it serves as a natural border between Nepal and Tibet, China.

2. K2 - K2 is located on the border between Xinjiang, China and Gilgit Pakistan. With a peak of 28,251 feet, it is the second highest mountain in the world. It is referred to as the Savage Mountain, because it has the second highest fatality rate of mountains over 8,000 meters high.

3. Kangchenjunga- Resting on the border between Nepal and India, Kangchenjunga is the world's third highest mountain with a peak of 28,169 feet. Until 1852 it was thought to be the tallest mountain in the world.

4. Lhotse - The peak of Lhotse measures in at 27,940 feet making it the fourth tallest mountain on Earth. It is actually connected to Mount Everest and is likewise located on the Nepal and China border.

5. Makalu - Another mountain bordering Mount Everest, Makul has a height of 27,838 feet. It is the fifth tallest mountain in the world. It is located on the border of China and Nepal.

6. Cho Oyo - Also located in the Himalayas, Cho Oyo has a height of 26,906 feet. It is known for being the easiest peak to climb over 8,000 meters.

7. Dhaulagiri - The seventh tallest mountain is 26,795 feet tall. It is located in Nepal.

8. Manaslu I - The eighth highest mountain with a height of 26,759. It is located in Nepal.

9. Nanga Parbat - It has a height of 26,660 ft, making it the Earth's ninth highest peak. It is locatedd in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It is known as the killer mountain, being one of the most dangerous to climb.

10. Annapurna I - Annapurna I has a height of 26,545 feet. It is found in Central Nepal.
