Hubert Humphrey:
A Vice Presidential Unit

Hubert Humphrey was the thirty-eighth vice president of the United States of America. Born May 27, 1911 in Wallace, South Dakota and passed away on January 13, 1978. His presidential term lasted from January 20, 1965 to January 20, 1969 serving under Lyndon B. Johnson. Hubert Humphrey serving under Lyndon B. Johnson, and having extensive experience as being a U.S. senator, was often described as a democratic powerhouse. Born in a small town right above his father’s drug store, Hubert had anything but a conventional vice presidential childhood. Attending only one year at University of Minnesota, he had to drop out to help his father in the new drug store that he had opened up. In doing so, he thought his best choice was to obtain a pharmacy license. However, after receiving and working as a pharmacist, he decided to continue college in hopes of receiving a doctorate in political science to become a college professor. Pursuing his dreams and having extensive experience doing research, he eventually never received his PH.D but instead was an active participant in various Minneapolis political issues. In 1942, Hubert Humphrey started to gain much political respect serving in a multitude of different committees and soon after as mayor. Only six years after, the “happy warrior” served in the US senate in 1948. Many individuals were extremely pleased with his services so he was re-elected two more terms. Later, he was finally nominated as vice president after numerous attempts. His vice presidential career was one of fierce competition with Johnson as issues involving black mail were often present. Many followers and advocates of Hubert were let down, as they had expected him to stay true to his progressive liberal mindset, he instead was blackmailed and forced to play the typical democratic political game that Johnson had wanted. After his career, he returned to the U.S. senate, and was also a teacher at a nearby college in Minnesota. In 1978, Hubert had lost to the battle of bladder cancer, and was missed by many important political figures.
