How To Calculate Percentage

What is a percentage? A percentage is a proportion in relation to a whole which is usually the amount per hundred.

So how do you calculate a percentage? The easiest way is to divide the given amount by the total amount. After that, you would then multiply the answer by100 to get the percentage of the given amount with respect to the total amount.

The equation can be seen here:

_____________ * 100 = percentage

For example: If a basketball player on the free throw line shoots 6 out of 10 we can calculate his/her percentage by dividing 6 by 10 which results in .6 and then multiplying it by 100 which gives us the percentage of 60 percent. Thus, he/she shot 60% on the free throw line.

Another example: If Susie scores 45 out of 50 on her math test we can calculate her percentage by dividing 45 by 50 which gives us .9 and then multiplying it by 100 which gives us the percentage of 90 percent. Thus, she received a 90% on her math test.
