The earth consisting of nearly 71% of water, is often sought that it should have been named ocean, as the ocean encompasses nearly 97% of all water located on our planet, and furthermore oceans provide 99 percent of the Earth's living space, which is often times known as the largest space in our universe known to be inhabited by living organisms. There are four major oceans, or oceans of the world named the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, and Arctic oceans with each having very unique and diverse characteristics that only pertain to them. Here are some cool facts about these interesting oceans!

1) Pacific

a. The pacific is the deepest ocean in the world.

b. The ocean derived its name from the word Tepre Pacificum, meaning the peaceful sea.

c. The Pacific Ocean is home to the largest and longest coral reef housing habitat within the world.

2) Atlantic

a. The Atlantic Ocean has been deemed as the youngest developed ocean within our planet.

b. The name 'Atlantic' is derived from the legendary island of 'Atlantis', which was written by Plato.

c. Atlantic Ocean receives water from about half the world's land area. As most of the water comes from rivers.

3) Indian

a. Indian Ocean is the warmest ocean in the world.

b. Indian Ocean is known as 'Ratnakara' in the ancient Sanskrit literature. Ratnakara means 'the maker (creator) of jewels'.

c. Approximately 40% of the world's offshore oil production comes from the Indian Ocean.

4) Arctic Oceans

a. The Arctic Ocean is the smallest of the five oceans of the world. It's roughly 8% the size of the Pacific Ocean.

b. The Arctic Ocean is the coldest average temperature ocean.

c. More fish live along the edges of the Arctic Ocean than anywhere else on the Earth.
