Dan Quayle served as the 44th Vice President of the United States from January 20, 1989 to January 20, 1993. Though he was raised in Arizona, Quayle was born in Indiana, and received his law degree from the Indiana University School of Law. Qualye practiced law with his wife in Indiana, until turning to politics in 1976. He was elected to Congress in 1976 and in 1980, was elected to Senate. After two terms in Senate, George H.W. Bush chose Quayle as his running mate for the 1988 election. This was a decision met with a great deal of controversy; many questioned Quayle’s experience and capabilities. Regardless of concerns, Quayle was elected Vice President on the Republican ticket and had a successful term. Highlights of his Vice Presidency included visiting 47 countries and being chairman of the National Space Council. Quyale was again chosen as running mate to George H.W. Bush, but they were unable to win the election for a second term. Dan Quayle published his memoirs in 1996 and currently lives in Arizona.
