Lesson#5

Materials: Book: What Really Happened to the Dinosaurs
Book: Science & the Bible
Old VHS Cartridge (will be destroyed)
Piece of rope

Open with prayer - and read the memory verse together:

And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth…. Genesis 1:21a

Begin today's study by completing any work from the previous studies that needs to be done. Go over new spelling and vocabulary words. Have the children hi-light or put a checkmark by the words they have mastered.

Read pages 1-19 of What Really Happened to the Dinosaurs. Talk to the children about sin - ask them to tell you what it means and give you examples in their own words of what sin is. Discuss the meaning of sin until everyone has a good understanding of what sin is and can tell you what it means in their own words. Read Genesis 4:1-26 to see what happened after the fall and how quickly sin spread in the hearts and minds of people. Contrast between Adam & Eve eating the forbidden fruit and the murders in Genesis 4. The point you want to convey is that sin is sin, and one sin leads to another and another - growing worse and worse.

Look up any unfamiliar words. (slew /wroth / cursed) Study spelling words.

Do science experiment #6 in Science & the Bible. While wrapping the cassette tape around the student (2nd part of experiment) mention "little" sins - one after the other as you go around. Mentioning how one "little" sin easily leads to another and another until you are all bound up in sin. Another illustrative lesson is to lead the child by the tape while going to get the scissors to cut it off. While doing so explain how once sin has a "hold" on us, it can lead us places that we may not want to really go and there is only one way to brake the bonds of sin. Ask them if they know how before you cut the tape. It is Jesus, only Jesus can brake those bonds. Do this with each student, and let him or her do it to you too. Give the scientific explanation of why they couldn't brake through multiple layers of the tape. Show the children a piece of rope and how it is made up of individual threads - this can be used to illustrate why it is important that we have fellowship with other believers.

Clean up and put everything away. Have children share what they have learned with someone. Have them do the experiment on dad (or other family member or friend) when he comes home.
