Celebrating Easter: Candy Palm Tree
This is a really cute craft activity that isn’t difficult to do at all. You can even recycle scrap construction paper … or color white paper green … and use cardboard paper towel tubes. It can also make a nice center piece.
Project Supplies:
Green construction paper (or white paper that you have colored or painted green)
Empty kitchen paper tubes
A selection of wrapped sweets
Tape
Directions:
Cut long palm shapes out of the green construction paper (or white paper that you have painted or colored green).
Write "Hosanna" on one side of each palm leaf.
Color the tube by rubbing with brown crayons (using two different shades of brown gives a more realistic finish.)
With scissors or a craft knife, make short slits at intervals across the sides of the tube near the top, just enough to tuck in each palm leaf.
Tape the bottom of the paper towel tube shut.
Fill tube with wrapped sweets. Tape the top of the paper tube shut.
Insert the leaves in the slits and you have a palm tree.
If you make several of these, they make great party favors. They are also useful for creating a diorama of the avenue that Jesus road through on his way into Jerusalem.
