Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day: Irish Geography
Add some fun and education to your celebration of St. Patrick’s day by studying some Irish geography. There are some general activities and questions, as well as links to interesting websites to take this a little further.

Suggested Activities:
1. Using any of the maps from the links above, draw a star to mark the location of Ireland’s capital Write the city’s name next to it.
2. Draw a dot to show the location of the following cities or towns, and label them:
§ Cork
§ Killarney
§ Limerick
§ Tipperary
3. Learn a little bit about each of the cities above. Which one(s) do you think you would like to visit? Why?
4. Label Northern Ireland. Shade that area in.
5. What two bodies of water separate Ireland from Great Britain? Label these bodies of water on your map.

6. What ocean borders Ireland on the north, south, and west? Label this on your map.
7. Investigate why Ireland is called the Emerald Isle.
8. Peat bogs cover about one-tenth of Ireland. What is a peat bog? How is it formed? What, if anything, are they, or have they, been used for?
9. What fraction of the island of Ireland is occupied by the country of Ireland? What fraction is occupied by Northern Ireland?
