This is a wonderful project that makes a handy and frugal convenience mix for brownies that you can keep in the pantry; or, you can place this mix in a decorative jar and give it as a gift.
Ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour
6 cups granulated sugar
3 cups Watkins Cocoa
4 teaspoons Watkins baking powder
3 teaspoons salt
2 cups vegetable shortening
Directions:
Combine first 5 ingredients and mix well. Using a pastry blender or 2 knives, thoroughly cut in shortening. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Give with the recipe for Brownies. Yields 16 cups of mix, enough for 8 batches of brownies. To make the Brownies: Combine 2 cups of brownie mix, 2 eggs, 1 teaspoon Watkins vanilla extract, and ½ cup chopped nuts (if desired) Stir just until all ingredients are moistened. Spread in a lightly greased 8-inch square pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes, or until set in the center. Cut into 2-inch squares. Yields 16 brownies.
