Christmas Crackers

It's fun to try out some of the Christmas traditions in other countries. One that my family has come to enjoy is Christmas Crackers, also known as Party Poppers, from England.

Christmas Crackers originated in England in the 1800's. They are gifts with fancy wrappings that pop with a crack when pulled in half. You can easily make your own versions using recycled cardboard toilet paper tubes and leftover wrapping paper or tissue paper.

Place small prizes, such as hard candies, marbles, stickers, etc., inside the cardboard tube. Then, wrap the tube with tissue paper or wrapping paper. Leave enough excess at each end of the tube so that you can tie the ends with ribbon.

If you are using plain tissue paper or wrapping paper, you can add decorative touches with stickers, paints, markers, etc.
