The Popcorn Song
Singing and body movement give wiggly little bodies something to do while their brain is putting a lesson into long term memory. This is especially true if you are dealing with kinetic learners. This is a cute activity that can be used as a stand alone activity or as a thematic activity to go with October being National Popcorn Month.
If you have a child who is physically challenged, adjust the movements to suit their individual abilities.
Sing this to the tune of “Shortnin’ Bread”. Motions are in ( ).
We’re going to make some nice warm popcorn.
We’re going to make some corn right now.
(jump up and down in place)
Turn on the popper.
(turn on the popper)
Pour it in.
(pretend you are pouring popcorn into the popper)
Watch the kernels as they spin, spin, spin.
(spin in place)
Sprinkle some salt and
Garlic or cheese.
Choose a topping, if you please.
(make a sprinkling motion all during these three lines)
We’re going to make some nice warm popcorn.
We’re going to make some corn right now.
(jump up and down in place)
