Chocolate Fever Unit Study Activities
This unit contains activities to use in conjunction with the book Chocolate Fever by Robert Kimmel Smith.
Story Summary:
Henry Green is a boy who loves chocolate more than anyone else in the world. He eats it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And chocolate seems to love him to because it doesn’t make him fat, doesn’t hurt his teeth, doesn’t hurt his skin, and doesn’t give him a belly ache. So, Henry’s parents allow him to eat as much of it as he likes. But one day, Henry suddenly develops “chocolate fever.”
About the Author:
Robert Kimmel Smith was born on July 31, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York. The idea for Chocolate Fever came from a story that Mr. Smith would tell his daughter about a little boy who loved chocolate so much. He kept forgetting parts of the story, so his daughter asked him to write it down and that story became the book. The boy who loved chocolate was actually Mr. Smith, but the adventures in the book are purely fictitious.

Additional Activity Ideas:
1. Learn about where chocolate comes from, how it is processed, its history, and what it is used for besides candy bars.
2. Chocolate Fever is a made up disease, but you could study other, real, childhood diseases and how to prevent them.
3. Make a graph from a survey about people’s favorite use for chocolate.
