Thanksgiving Potpourri
Smell is a very important learning tool. Stimulating the sense of smell while studying a topic reinforces retention skills. Here's a homemade potpourri to use during the Thanksgiving or Fall season.
Ingredients:
1 cup sage leaves
1 cup lovage leaves
½ cup pumpkin seeds
½ cup squash seeds
1 cup Indian corn
2 cups goldenrod
½ cup sunflower seeds
1 cup evening primrose pods
2 cups basil leaves and flowers
2 cups hickory nuts
2 cups acorns
Directions:
Mix all of the above ingredients together in a large bowl. Display mixture in open glass containers during the holiday. Later on, you can use this potpourri for bird feed.
If you are unable to find some of the "ingredients" for this potpourri, feel free to substitute other, dried flowers. Preferably these would be fall colored, such as straw flowers, dried roses, chrysanthemums, etc.
The herbs can often be found at your local grocery store, near where you would find lettuce and other fresh greens.
