Celebrating Thanksgiving:
Mr. Thankful Turkey
Thanksgiving is a holiday used to celebrate some of the earliest settlers of the United States of America surviving the disease and starvation of their first year. It is also a time traditionally set aside for thinking about what we are thankful for today.
One way to get the whole family ... along with extended family and friends ... involved is this cute project that can be done over and over again each year.
First, draw a large turkey body minus the tail feathers. You don't have to be a great artist to do this, just make a large cirle for the body. You can then add a smaller cirlce for the head, a yellow or orange triangle for the beak and draw in Mr. Turkey's legs.
Then, cut out a bunch of different colored tail feathers.
On the tail feathers, each person can right something they are thankful for this year, then affix it to the turkey.
Keep lots of feathers on hand and let friends and family add a feather, and their thankful item, as they come to visit.
If family cannot get together for the traditional Thanksgiving festivities, send out letters that include a blank feather with a description of what you are doing and instructions to send it back after they have written their thankful item on it.
This can become a special family tradition after just one year.
