Hummingbird Food

Hummingbirds are wondrous creatures -- so pretty, so fragile appearing, so quick!! You can plant a flower bed to attract hummingbirds. If you can't wait for the flowers to bloom, here is a food you can make to attract them.

To first attract the hummingbirds, make the ratio of sugar to water one to three. After the birds become regular customers, change the ratio to one to four. Wash the hummingbird feeder once a week -- more often if you have an ant problem.

Supplies:

1 cup sugar
4 cups distilled water
red food coloring

Directions:

1. Combine the sugar and water and heat it. Bring to a boil and boil it for 2 minutes.

2. Add enough red food coloring to make the syrup a bright red. This will catch the birds' attention.

3. Place this syrup in a hummingbird feeder. These feeders are often available at hardware stores, discount stores, garden stores, and through catalogs.
