Testing for Starch:
A Science Experiment
This is a fun and easy science experiment by itself or it can go very well with a study on nutrition.
Supplies:
waxed paper
tincture of iodine*
different kinds of food such as:
Cut potatoes
Cut apples
Orange segments
Bread
Crackers
Cheese
Directions:
1. Place the foods on the waxed paper.
2. Place a drop of the tincture of iodine onto each food.
3. The foods containing starch will turn purple where the iodine touches them.
*Check your first aid kit or the local pharmacy for tincture of iodine.
