Incorporating Cooking: Pierogi (Poland)
Here's a great cooking activity to add to a study of Poland. This is a fairly simple recipe and is very, very tasty!
Ingredients:
2 c. flour
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. warm water
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
--FILLING--
1 (12 oz.) box dry cottage cheese
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 egg
Directions:
Sift flour and salt into bowl. Add butter, eggs and very warm water. Mix together, knead until smooth and satiny. Roll dough on floured board 1/4 inch thick (use large glass to cut in rounds). In each, round spoon in filling, fold over and seal. Place in boiling water until perogie floats. Remove and saute in butter or sauted onions.
