Fall Fun: Cinnamon Candy
Candymaking is a great science fun project. Don't tell the child what the outcome is supposed to be and label the ingredients with numbers or letters instead of what they are. Then see how well they follow directions by the outcome.
Ingredients:
3 c. Ingredient 1 (white sugar)
1 c. Ingredient 2 (white Karo syrup)
1 c. H20 (water)
1 tbsp. Ingredient 3 (red food coloring)
2 tsp. Ingredient 4 (cinnamon oil)
1 pair scissors
Directions:
1. Combine Ingredient 1 and Ingredient 2 and the H20.
2. Cook until hard crack using candy thermometer. [This is where they can use their research skills.]
3. Remove from heat source.
4. Stir in Ingredient 3. Add in Ingredient 4, stirring well to mix.
5. Pour into greased cookie sheet.
6. When cool enough to touch, using scissors cut into bite-size pieces. Roll pieces in powdered sugar.
