Incorporating Cooking: KIFLI (Yugoslavia)
These are delicious Yugoslavian pastries. Really yummy and fairly simple to fix. Great for a geography unit or international day exhibit.
Ingredients:
2 c. flour
1 c. cottage cheese (not creamed)
1 c. butter, chilled and cut into pieces
8 oz. preserves
1/2 c. finely chopped walnuts
Granulated sugar
Directions:
1. Place flour, cottage cheese, and butter in cuisinart and mix until dough forms into ball.
2. Divide dough into 4 balls and refrigerate wrapped in wax paper for several hours.
3. Roll 1/4 of the dough on floured board to 1/8 inch thickness in a 10 inch circle.
4. Spread with jam or preserves and sprinkle with nuts.
5. Cut into pre shaped wedges, 3 inches wide at base.
6. Roll up from wide end. Pinch to close.
7. Place on greased baking sheet and sprinkle with sugar.
8. Bake in 375 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
