July Is National Ice Cream Month
What would summer be without ice cream?! July is National Ice Cream Month, and to celebrate this, we are beginning a new series of articles with ice cream as the topic. Today’s article is on ice cream’s history. What a delicious topic!
In addition to ice cream history, we will have a new “flavor of the day” each day for the remainder of the month of July. Through out July you will be able to find interesting and fun ideas and worksheets on how to incorporate ice cream into your lessons.
Can you imagine living in a time without ice cream? Well ice cream had to start some when and where. Below are links where you will find information on the interesting history of ice cream. Its been around a lot longer than you might think. According to some texts, Marco Polo (1254-1324) saw ice cream being made on his trip through China!
There are also links to specific ice cream makers. Ever visited Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream factory near Waterbury, Vermont? Ever wondered about the quality of that yummy delicious Haagen Dazs ice cream? Want information on that tried and true ice cream company Dreyer’s? Take a look. These companies have some nice websites. I’ve even include a site that has a funky recipe for Garlic Ice Cream …. Hmmmm as much as I love ice cream I might have to pass on that one.
