Celebrating Independence Day: Fruity Sparklers
One of my earliest memories of celebrating Independence Day is holding a sparkler and using it to form shapes in the night sky. I still love sparklers and watching fireworks. Here’s a fun and healthy treat to have at your own Independence Day celebration.
Fruit Sparklers
Ingredients:
24 large blueberries
24 strawberries
3 bananas, cut into 8 pieces each
24 cherries
24 large marshmallows
Additional items needed:
8 wooden skewers
8 each red, white, and blue ribbons, 1-foot lengths
Directions:
1. Skewer fruit and marshmallows on wooden skewers in a red, white and blue pattern, using four of each item on a skewer.
2. Tie red, white, and blue ribbons to the bottom of the skewer.
3. Important Safety tip: When finished skewering fruit, break off sharp tips of skewers to prevent injury.
When the kids are finished eating the fruit kabobs, they can use the streamers to have their own parade.
