Recycling Fun: Sewer Soda
This is a real hoot! It doesn’t look too nice, but it tastes great. Who would have thought you could include an edible cooking lesson with a recycling project?
Ingredients:
1 quart Chocolate chocolate chip ice cream
¾ cup Chocolate syrup
1 liter Club soda
Directions:
1. Let the ice cream sit at room temperature until it is easy to scoop.
2. Spoon ice cream into glasses until it is about halfway full.
3. Pour or squeeze about 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup into each glass.
4. Slowly fill the glass almost to the top with club soda and stir well with a spoon.
5. Serve with a straw and tall spoon for excavating those luscious brown lumps.
Yield: Serves 4
Note: To make this really “gross,” the book Gross Grub by Cheryl Porter (ISBN 0-679-86693-0), suggests adding an unwrapped tootsie roll into the top of each glass. (Trust me, it made the boys in my son’s Cub Scout pack howl with laughter.)
