Health Studies: Chicken Pox Pancakes
When teaching my children subjects that can sometimes be a bit on the dry and boring side, I always try and include fun activities to liven things up a bit. Health can be one of those subjects. But not when you include a cooking demonstration to give a giggle.
We were studying immunizations in our health unit. Childhood diseases can be a little scary for kids … but I lightened up their concerns by letting them cook chicken pox pancakes.
Ingredients:
Strawberries
Pancake mix
Bananas
Powdered sugar
Kitchen Tools:
Knife
Cutting board
Mixing bowl
Large Flat skillet
Spatula
Plates
Directions:
1. Chop the berries into small chunks, allowing one or two berries per pancake face. Set aside until needed.
2. Prepare the pancake mix according to package directions. When the pancakes are done, place each serving in a stack on a separate plate.
3. For every two stacks of pancakes, you need to peel one banana.
4. Carefully slice off the two ends and put one on top of each stack for a nose.
5. Cut two thin slices for eyes.
6. Cut the remaining banana in half for a long curved mouth.
7. Arrange the strawberry chunk chicken pox all around each face.
8. Drop a very small pinch of powdered sugar on each pox (berry chunk) for a tasty bit of pus. (Yek!! … looks gross, tastes great … LOL!)
