Skillbuilders: Preacher's Cat

This is a cool verbal game where every letter in the alphabet is used to describe a funny feline. The repetition involved make this a great memory builder as well as reinforcing the alphabet with younger children. The larger the group playing, the more memory skills required.

Number of Players: 2 or more
Place: Anywhere
Equipment: None

Game Directions:

To play, each player takes a turn at creating a sentence centered around a letter of the alphabet. The basic framework of the sentence is:

"The preacher's cat is a(n) __________ cat, and his/her name is __________."

This framework remains the same through out the game. Players must fill in the first blank with an adjective and the second with a name, each beginning with the same letter.

Everybody starts with the letter "A." The first player might say "The preacher's cat is an awesome cat, her name is Ann." The second player might say "The preacher's cat is an awful cat, his name is Arthur."

After each player has a turn with "A" then the round moves on to the letter "B," continuing through the entire alphabet. Note: Players may agree to skip certain letters if they chose, but this must be done BEFORE the game begins.

Older children may opt to make the game more difficult as follows:

Player 1: "The preacher's cat is an awesome cat, her name is Ann." "Awesome Ann."

Player 2: "The preacher's cat is an awful cat, his name is Arthur." "Awful Arthur." "Awesome Ann."

Player 3: "The preacher's cat is an avid cat, her name is Annabelle." ""Avid Annabell." "Awful Arthur." "Awesome Ann."

Player 4: "The preacher's cat is a bad cat, his name is Bart." "Bad Bart." "Avid Annabelle." "Awful Arthur." "Awesome Ann."

Alternately you can chose to begin the repetition over for each letter.
