Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States of America. He was born on 14 October 1890 in Denison, Texas and spent most of his adult life in the Army. He died 28 Mar 1969 a national hero, under whose leadership the states of Alaksa and Hawaii were added to the union.

"Dwight Eisenhower was in the army almost his entire life. He attended West Point Military Academy. He was chosen to be the general who ran all the armies during World War II. After the war he was a national hero and one of the best-loved men in the world.

Eisenhower's campaign slogan, 'I Like Ike,' was based on his nickname in the army. 'Ike' was not only a national and world hero, he was one of the most popular presidents in US history.

In addition to helping to reach an end to fighting in Korea, and adding the states of Alaska and Hawaii, two other major events during Eisenhowers term were the US satellite of Explorer I in 1958 in response to the Russian launch of Sputnik I; and, sending federal troops to see that desegregation was carried out in Little Rock, Arkansas on 9 Sep 1957.
