Bread Machine: Apple Cinnamon Bread

The holidays create a perfect opportunity to utilize the kitchen for special lessons. You can measure, study fractions and volume, practice reading skills, practice following directions, practice daily living skills, and much more. One of the things we like to do is discuss the countries that the various ingredients may have come from. This recipe is one way to introduce your student into utilizing the bread machine, both for using at home and for homemade gift-giving.

The cinnamon may be increased or decreased to appeal to your personal tastes. The applesauce replaces butter or margarine in this recipe so there is less fat. For those familiar with their bread machine, you could also add chopped apple (fresh or dried) and nuts at the appropriate time in the baking cycle.

Ingredients are for a small loaf.

Cycle: white, sweet
Setting: medium

Ingredients:

1/2 cup water
2 1/2 T. apple juice concentrate
1/4 cup applesauce
1/2 t. ground cinnamon
2 T. brown sugar
1/4 t. salt
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup bread flour
1 t. yeast

Follow your machine's directions, placing ingredients in the machine in the proper order. Set your cycle and setting and process per owner's manual.
